The 20-year-old from the northern port city of Hai Phong won a total of 14,300 points, surpassing Japan’s Tanaka (13,275 points) and Germany’s Anja Rheinbay (12,387 points) to claim the championship title.
For the men, Nguyen Ha Thanh took home a silver medal for Vietnam in the men’s vaulting event.
The Vietnamese gymnasts, including the most popular names such as Phan Thi Ha Thanh, Thanh Huyen, Dang Nam, Phuoc Hung, Nguyen Ha Thanh and Hoang Cuong, competed in the asymmetrical and parallel bars, balance beam, rings, pommel horse, vaulting, and freestyle events.
The two-day invitational tournament in Japan was a good opportunity for Vietnamese athletes to gain experience and hone their skills in preparation for the 2012 London Olympic qualifiers on January 10-18, 2012.
