It is also General Secretary and President To Lam’s first state visit to the Philippines in his new capacity, and takes place as the two countries mark the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

According to the Philippine News Agency, Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. will host General Secretary and President To Lam at the Presidential Palace.

The two leaders will review the achievements of bilateral cooperation and the strength of bilateral ties over the past half-century, while laying out a shared vision for relations in the years ahead.

The visit will also provide an opportunity for General Secretary and President To Lam and President Marcos to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation across priority areas, including trade, investment, food security, defence, maritime affairs, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

Philippine media highlighted that Viet Nam is the Philippines’ only strategic partner in Southeast Asia. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1976 and upgraded their ties to a strategic partnership in 2015.

In recent years, bilateral relations have expanded significantly across many fields. The two countries are working to boost trade, with a target of reaching 10 billion USD in two-way trade in the coming years.
