This year’s tournament draws the participation of five domestic teams including VTV Binh Dien Long An, Lien Viet PostBank, VietinBank, VietsovPetro and Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Binh Club as well as three foreign teams: Australia, Karaganda from Kazakhstan and Yangsan from the Republic of Korea. The eight teams are competing on a round robin basis to decide which four top teams advance to the semi-finals.
The tournament winner will receive a cash prize of US$12,000, while the runners-up and the third-placed teams will get US$7,000 and US$5,000 respectively.
Players for the winning team will receive gold medals and various other prizes will be awarded for individual efforts.
In the opening match, VietinBank beat Yangsan 3-2 while another Vietnamese representative, VTV Binh Dien Long An, lost 0-3 to Karaganda.
