The event was jointly held by the Management and Sustainable Development Institute (MSD), the National Agency for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialisation Development (NATEC) and the National Startup Support Centre (NSCC).
In his opening remarks, NATEC Director Pham Hong Quat stated that the development of science and technology has made our lives better but we are also facing serious issues such as natural resource depletion, environmental pollution and climate change.
In this context, the circular economy is a solution to address such issues, said Quat, adding that the circular economy is defined as an economic model in which all design, production and service activities are intended to prolong the lifespan of materials and eliminate negative impacts on the environment.
Therefore, the workshop was held to promote cooperation between the relevant sides on creating a more sustainable economic system, with a balance between economic growth and sustainable development.
It is hoped the event could also inspire startup businesses to look for creative ways to take advantage of resources to create new products and services, contributing to the national economy.
According to FPT University Vice Chairman Hoang Nam Tien, as the community is facing increasingly severe natural resource depletion, the circular economy offers a solution to transform society and the economy.
Nguyen Phuong Linh from the MDS noted that the development of a circular economy is inevitable and comes in line with Vietnam’s sustainable development goals.
At the workshop, speakers highlighted new technological solutions and business models towards the model of a green and circular economy, as well as the advantages and challenges facing startup businesses concerned with sustainable development.
