* An international summit will be held in Egypt's Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday to finalize an agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza, the Egyptian Presidency announced on Saturday.

* Patrick Herminie, candidate of the largest opposition party in Seychelles, the United Seychelles, has won the presidential election by garnering more than 50 percent of the votes, according to official results released Sunday by the country's electoral commission.

* Cameroon's political parties concluded their presidential election campaigns on Saturday night ahead of Sunday's vote.

* U.S. President Donald Trump said Saturday on Truth Social that he has directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to "use all available funds" to ensure troops receive their pay on Oct. 15 amid the ongoing federal government shutdown.

* Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday that he discussed the possibility of bolstering his country's air defense in a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump. According to him, the two leaders talked about opportunities to bolster Ukraine's air defense, as well as concrete agreements to achieve that goal.

* Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday that Tehran is ready for a "fair and balanced" negotiation with Washington. Araghchi said if the United States presented a plan capable of safeguarding Iran's interests, Tehran would definitely consider it.

* Tens of thousands took to the street in London on Saturday in support of Palestine, marking two years of the war in Gaza. * Typhoon No. 23 is moving east over the sea south of Japan's Shikoku and is expected to approach the Izu Islands on Monday, bringing violent winds and heavy rain to the area. The storm has a central pressure of 980 hectopascals, with maximum winds of 30 meters per second, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
