Wrestler Nguyen Thi Lua

Lua was born and brought up in Yen Noi village, Dong Quang commune, Quoc Oai district of Hanoi which is famous for its wrestling tradition. Like other children in the village, Lua had a passion for wrestling when she was just a little girl. Her father was a senior wrestler in the village while her uncle once won several medals at the national tournament. Lua soon showed her talent in wrestling and immediately won her first bronze medal in the women's 46kg at the national youth championship only one year after turning professional. Two years later, she continued to excel by collecting a gold and a silver medal at the national tournament. In her first time abroad, she brought home a bronze medal from the Asian Youth Championship in Chinese Taipei in 2007 and repeated her achievement two years later.

Recently, at the Asian Wrestling Championship, the Vietnamese wrestler won another bronze medal in the women's 48kg category after surpassing a lot of strong opponents from the continent. Following this achievement, she is expected to have a good opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games.
