According to the Chairman of the General Council Ho Xuan Hung, after 10 years of establishment, the General Council has attracted more than 230 collective members, more than 10 thousand individual members, including businesses, organisations, and intellectuals, contributing to building modern agriculture, wealthy farmers, and civilised countrysides.

Speaking at the meeting, President Vo Van Thuong affirmed that the Party and State have considered the development of agriculture, farmers and rural areas to be a strategic issue.

The State leader underscored that great achievements in the country's economic and social development always have important contributions to agriculture and farmers.

The agricultural sector not only ensures domestic food security but also exports with great value compared to other industries, while Vietnamese agricultural products are now present in many demanding markets, he noted.

President Vo Van Thuong spoke highly of efforts made by the General Council in the past years and urged the General Council to organise activities to support farmers through training, disseminating knowledge, promoting science and technology transfer, and guiding farmers and fishermen to produce green, clean, safe products; and promote the implementation of the new rural construction programme, to maximize the role of farmers in the process of agricultural production and rural construction.
