Professional cartoonists, amateur animators and students can submit unpublished English-language works online at www.aseananimationcontest2014.com. All contestants must be legal citizens of ASEAN countries. The deadline for entries is April 18.
The competition is held mainly to raise public awareness about the importance of intellectual property protection in the ASEAN region. Organisers also hope to encourage the creation of new copyrighted cartoons in the region and concurrently improve the capabilities of animators in the creation and commercialisation of cartoons.
It also provides opportunities for sharing experience and knowledge between the animators and for expanding the network of the ASEAN cartoon and animation industry in order to promote its development.
An awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in Thailand this August. One first prize, one second prize, one third prize and three honorable mentions will be presented to outstanding submissions. The award-winning animations will be distributed and promoted as part of the campaign to raise awareness of intellectual property around the region.
The winner will receive a chance to participate in a five-day course at a cartoon studio at Hollywood and a cash prize of THB100,000 (US$3,000).
