Each beneficiary household will receive 6.5 million VND, totalling nearly 4 billion VND in aid.
This initiative is part of the project to support recovery for women affected by Typhoon Yagi in 2024 in Lao Cai Province, funded by the Australian and New Zealand governments.
Implemented by UN Women in collaboration with the Lao Cai Women’s Union and local authorities, the project aims to help vulnerable women rebuild their livelihoods, ensure social welfare, and promote gender equality post-disaster.
Eligible beneficiaries include poor or near-poor women who lost livelihoods or suffered significant income loss (over 70%) due to the typhoon, ethnic minority women, single mothers, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, households with elderly dependents (over 65), and gender-based violence survivors in Bat Xat District.
According to Caroline Nyamayemombe, UN Women Representative in Vietnam, natural disasters don’t just cause material damage, they profoundly disrupt lives and livelihoods.
She added that this cash assistance serves not only as emergency relief but also as vital support to help Lao Cai women recover sustainably.
In addition to cash aid, the programme includes training on climate-resilient livelihood recovery and awareness campaigns on gender-based violence prevention.
The project underscores UN Women’s commitment to supporting vulnerable women in crisis-affected areas.
