The image of Nguyen Xuan Khang, Principal of Marie Curie School in Ha Noi, is a vivid testament to a spirit of innovation and creativity closely associated with social responsibility and deep affection for students. Not only dedicating to education, Teacher Khang is also known as a grandfatherly figure to disadvantaged and underprivileged students.

In September 2024, when Typhoon Yagi triggered devastating flash floods and landslides in Lang Nu Hamlet, Phuc Khanh Commune, Bao Yen District, Lao Cai Province (former), the entire hamlet was wiped out within just a few hours. More than 60 people were killed, including many children. In that tragic situation, Teacher Nguyen Xuan Khang adopted and committed to providing long-term support for 22 surviving children. From October 2024, each child has received 3 million VND per month (until the youngest child turns 18 years old), with total funding exceeding 5.6 billion VND.

For his remarkable compassion and contributions, Nguyen Xuan Khang has been honoured with numerous prestigious awards, notably the title of Outstanding Citizen of the Capital in 2024. Above all, however, his image has become a powerful source of inspiration for thousands of teachers, students, and parents, encouraging them to strive harder in both work and life.

Amid the majestic mountains of the north-west, in the remote border area of Muong Cha Commune in Dien Bien Province, there is a school known as Cha Cang High School, established in 2008 (now Muong Cha High School). In its early days, the school consisted of only a few temporary single-storey buildings and faced severe shortages of classrooms, dormitories, books, and even clean water. Teachers stayed in the villages, going from house to house to encourage students to attend school despite biting cold and muddy, rugged roads. Some students had to walk several kilometres just to make it to class. In such circumstances, the school’s first teachers ignited a flame of hope through their dedication and deep love for the profession. Among them was Teacher Bui Van Iu, a son of Phu Tho Province. Arriving at the school in 2010, Iu brought not only lesson plans but also the youthful enthusiasm and aspiration to help change the lives of students in remote mountainous areas.

After more than 15 years of dedication and growth along with the remote school, Bui Van Iu from Muong Cha High School has become not only an outstanding teacher and a devoted companion to students but also a capable, responsible, and creative Secretary of the school’s Youth Union. Under his leadership, Youth Union activities have become increasingly well-organised, practical, and meaningful, leaving a strong impression on colleagues and the local community. Notable initiatives include programmes promoting moral education, life skills and legal awareness, environmental protection models, healthy lifestyle campaigns, and volunteer and charitable activities for the community.

Thanks to his dedication and creativity, the Youth Union of Muong Cha High School has been recognised as an “Outstanding Collective” in Youth Union work and youth movements among schools in the province and has received awards from the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for many consecutive years.

“Bui Van Iu is a teacher with strong professional expertise and a high sense of responsibility. Many extracurricular activities, volunteer programmes, and initiatives encouraging academic excellence and personal development that he initiated and led have left profound impressions. He embodies the dedication, vision, and responsibility of an educator who is not afraid of difficulties and always gives his all for students and the collective,” said Vu Trong Vinh, the school’s Principal.

Pham Ngoc Thuong, Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training, said that the education sector currently has about 27 million pupils and students and approximately 1.6 million managers, teachers and staff. In recent years, the institutional and policy system for education and training has continued to be supplemented and improved, closely following the Party’s orientations and aligning with practical realities. Teachers and educational managers at all levels have been always devoted, responsible, and innovative, with a strong aspiration to contribute to the noble cause of nurturing future generations.

Over the past years, the education sector has effectively implemented the emulation movement “Innovation and creativity in management, teaching, and learning,” closely associated with studying and following Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality, and lifestyle. The dedication and efforts of teachers have made significant contributions to effectively implementing policies, maintaining orderly learning environments, and improving the quality of education.
