This marks the first time a Vietnamese organisation has obtained EASA Part 147 certification, representing a significant milestone in enhancing the capacity for technical workforce training in the aviation sector in line with international standards.
It is also the first such certification granted in Viet Nam, underscoring an important step forward in upgrading the quality of aviation technical training to meet global benchmarks.
Aviation experts noted that the certification of a Vietnamese organisation under EASA Part 147 demonstrates that domestic aviation training capabilities now meet international standards, while also helping to reduce training costs by up to 90%. This is particularly significant as Viet Nam’s aircraft fleet becomes increasingly modern and demand for highly skilled technical personnel continues to grow alongside the expansion of the aviation market.
Tran Quoc Hoai, President and CEO of VAECO, said: “Achieving EASA Part 147 certification marks a key milestone in improving the quality of technical human resources and standardising aircraft maintenance training in line with international standards. Mastering a European-standard training system enables VAECO to proactively develop its maintenance engineering workforce, while contributing to strengthening operational safety foundations and enhancing the technical capabilities of Viet Nam’s aviation sector amid an increasingly modern fleet.”
At the event, VAECO signed training cooperation agreements with Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, Phu Quoc Sun Aviation Company, and the Viet Nam Association of Aviation Science and Technology. These partnerships aim to develop aviation technical training programmes tailored to practical demands, while enhancing the sharing of resources and experience in EASA-standard training.
EASA Part 147 is an international standard governing aircraft maintenance training, allowing organisations to train licensed maintenance engineers in accordance with European standards. Through this programme, engineers may obtain certification to sign off maintenance for internationally registered aircraft, particularly those registered in Europe.
Looking ahead, aircraft maintenance services are expected to face increasing competition. This certification is only a starting point, said Uong Viet Dung, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam, who urged VAECO to further strengthen its workforce, apply science and technology alongside digital transformation to enhance training capacity, develop internationally integrated training curricula, and build a highly skilled talent pool. These efforts will help ensure that the aviation sector continues to serve as a spearhead industry contributing to the country’s economic development.
