On August 14, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the official results of Viet Nam’s national team at the 2026 IOI. All four team members achieved awards, including one gold medal, two silver medals, and one certificate of commendation. Viet Nam ranked among the eight leading countries and territories.
The gold medal went to Nguyen Huu Tuan, a 12th-grade student at the High School for Gifted Students, University of Science, Viet Nam National University, Ha Noi.
Silver medals were won by Dang Huy Hau, an 11th-grade student at Thang Long High School for the Gifted in Lam Dong Province, and Nguyen Bui Duc Dung, a 12th-grade student at the High School for Gifted Students, University of Science, Viet Nam National University, Ha Noi.
Nguyen Khanh Phuc, a 10th-grade student at Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted in Ninh Binh Province, received a certificate of commendation.
Nguyen Huu Tuan made a notable mark on the international Olympiad stage by winning gold medals at two world-level competitions within just one week. After securing a gold medal at the 2026 International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) in Kazakhstan, he went on to win another gold medal at the 2026 IOI in Uzbekistan.
Notably, Tuan has now won four international gold medals and two silver medals, including gold medals at the IOAI in 2025 and 2026, the 2026 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO), and the 2026 IOI, as well as silver medals at the 2024 IOI and 2024 APIO.
The 38th IOI is being held in person from August 9 to 16 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This year’s competition has attracted 375 contestants from 92 countries and territories. Russia, Belarus, Israel, and Turkmenistan are competing under the Olympic flag.
A total of 188 contestants won medals, including 32 gold, 62 silver, and 94 bronze medals, accounting for 50% of all participants. Another 42 contestants received certificates of commendation.
With these results, Viet Nam’s national IOI team is among the eight highest-performing countries and territories in the medal table, behind China, the Republic of Korea, the US, Malaysia, Japan, Poland, and Türkiye, according to results published on the official IOI 2026 website.
The closing and award ceremony of IOI 2026 is scheduled for August 15, 2026.
