The aircraft took off from Gia Lam Airport at 7:15 a.m., delivering goods to Tia Dinh Commune and other isolated communes in Dien Bien.
The aircraft, operated by the 918th Air Brigade of the Air Defence-Air Force Command, carried two tonnes of dry food and instant noodles.
The relief supplies were delivered at several locations, including Na Son stadium; the football pitch in Hang Lia village, Tia Dinh commune; and were also airdropped to villages in five communes—Tia Dinh, Xa Dung, Muong Luan, Na Son, and Phinh Giang—in Dien Bien.
According to a report by the Department of Dyke Management and Flood and Landslide Prevention, as of 6:30 p.m. on August 1, heavy rain, floods, and landslides in communes including Xa Dung, Tia Dinh, Muong Luan, Pu Nhi, and Na Son caused nine deaths and one person missing.
The floods completely washed away or severely damaged over 60 houses in Xa Dung and Tia Dinh communes, while 171 houses in Muong Luan, Na Son, Tuan Giao, and Phinh Giang communes were flooded or affected by landslides.
The Ministry of National Defence directed the 18th Corps to deploy the helicopter VN-8624 to rescue eight people trapped by floods in Son La Province early on August 1.
The Ministry had mobilised 753 officers, soldiers, militia members, and 158 pieces of equipment and vehicles to assist Dien Bien and Son La provinces by the night of August 1 in searching for missing persons and mitigating flood damage.
