The provinces of Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh and Quang Ninh were hit by intense rainfall of nearly 300mm within six hours of the August 1 morning.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE), three people were killed and another nine were missing due to rain-triggered flash floods and landslides in Dien Bien Province.
The disasters also damaged 10 houses and cut off many roads in the province.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has sent his sympathy to those who lost their loved ones and shared the difficulties and losses faced by residents in disaster-hit areas.
The government leader requested Dien Bien Province and relevant ministries to quickly deploy personnel and equipment to the disaster zone to support local residents in dealing with the consequences of disasters.
He also asked the MAE to provide up-to-date information on weather events, especially the risks of heavy rain, flash floods and landslides for local authorities and residents to proactively take preventive measures.
In the meantime, the relevant ministries were tasked with promptly restoring damaged infrastructure, especially roads, electricity, water, communications, healthcare and education facilities.
