Viet Nam’s Ministry of Education and Training reported on April 15 that the event was held at Tsinghua University (China) on April 14, with the participation of around 100 leading higher education institutions from both countries, along with several enterprises.

At the forum, Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son affirmed that, as the world is rapidly shifting towards a knowledge-based economy and the digital era, major trends such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, semiconductor technology, the green economy and sustainable development are profoundly reshaping global socio-economic structures. In this context, cooperation among nations, especially among major education systems in the region, is no longer an option but an inevitable necessity.

The minister emphasised that Viet Nam and China share many similarities in culture, history and development orientations, and both place strong importance on education, science, technology and talent. These commonalities provide a solid foundation for the two countries to become strategic partners in building a regional knowledge and innovation ecosystem.

Within the framework of the forum, 52 cooperation agreements were signed between Vietnamese and Chinese higher education institutions.

Minister Hoang Minh Son described these as concrete commitments reflecting the potential, trust and expectations for future cooperation in high-quality human resource training, scientific research and innovation.

Regarding future cooperation directions, the minister proposed several key priorities, including promoting the establishment of joint innovation and research centres in cutting-edge technology fields; setting up mechanisms for two-way technology transfer; developing practice-oriented training programmes based on university–enterprise collaboration models; fostering student start-up and innovation ecosystems; and advancing the internationalisation of higher education as well as cooperation in digital transformation in education.

At the forum’s main session, Ren Youqun, Vice Minister of Education of China and Bui The Duy, Director of Viet Nam National University – Ha Noi, delivered speeches highlighting practical areas of higher education cooperation between the two countries.

Following the main session, delegates participated in four thematic sessions, providing opportunities for universities, research institutes and enterprises of both sides to exchange, connect and deepen cooperation in high-quality human resource training, scientific research and technological development, thereby contributing to strengthening political trust and enhancing the Viet Nam–China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
