According to the Viet Nam Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Earth Sciences, the tremor occurred at 11:35:06 (Ha Noi time) with coordinates of 14.864 degrees North latitude and 108.210 degrees East longitude, at a depth of about 8.1 km. The event was assessed as having a level-0 disaster risk.

The centre said the quake in Mang But was an induced earthquake. Since 2021, hundreds of tremors have been recorded in Quang Ngai, particularly in areas formerly belonging to Kon Tum province, mainly around the former Kon Plong district, some of which caused widespread shaking.

The strongest recorded in the area was a magnitude-5.0 quake on July 28, 2024, while an earlier tremor measuring 4.7 occurred on August 23, 2022.

The centre forecast that earthquakes in the area are likely to continue in the coming time but are unlikely to exceed a magnitude of 5.5. However, further detailed studies are needed to better assess seismic activity in the region.
