However, with their existing advantages, along with innovations in education and business connections, students still have many job opportunities if they proactively acquire skills to adapt to new trends.

Opportunities for social science students

In the face of digital transformation and AI, the labour market is experiencing profound changes. Students in social sciences and humanities, are not immune to these trends and must anticipate challenges in finding suitable employment.

Despite AI challenges, students in these fields have certain advantages in the eyes of employers.

Social science students are dynamic and communicative but must diversify their knowledge to meet business requirements.

Nguyen Thu Huyen, Director of the SHB Bank’s Nguyen Trai Transaction Office, praises the training approach of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

“The university not only provides its students with specialised knowledge but also connects students with businesses, helping them have clear career orientations and a deeper understanding of the real working environment,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Pham Tuan Anh, CEO of JOBOKO Global, said that students in social sciences have strong analytical and writing skills, making them suitable for media and digital content.

Their ability to grasp user psychology helps them excel in marketing and market research, he added.

However, he noted that with the development of AI and digital transformation, students need to enhance their practical skills and work experience early on.

Pham Van Tan, CEO of Phuc Tan Pharmaceutical JSC, said his company is willing to hire social science students for jobs like marketing, communications, and content production.

“Social science students are dynamic and communicative but must diversify their knowledge to meet business requirements. We encourage them to intern from their first year to gain a competitive edge when applying,” he shared.

From the perspective of a tech industry recruiter, Pham Duc Tien, Director of the Bidding Ecosystem Company, emphasised that in tech companies, not only are technical positions needed, but also personnel in areas like administration, marketing, and sales. He revealed that soft skills, teamwork ability, and proactive spirit are decisive factors for students competing in the market.

Innovation in education

According to Professor Dr Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) - Hanoi National University, the key solution to increasing student job opportunities lies in strengthening cooperation between academia and industry.

“Technology, especially AI, although posing challenges, is also a powerful tool. We have actively integrated technology into teaching, research, and community services,” Tuan said, explaining that the university has collaborated with Meta to develop a digital and AI-generated competency framework for students, which is expected to be completed by 2025.

This year’s USSH Job Fair hosted by the university gathered dozens of businesses with nearly 70 booths, offering about 1,300 job opportunities from around 60 recruiting units.

Not only did it provide job opportunities for students, but it also served as a bridge between academic training and practical needs.

Social science and humanities students are not lacking in job opportunities, but, they need to be more proactive in learning, interning early, and developing diverse skills to fully grasp those opportunities.

Additionally, the university continuously updates its curriculum and launches new majors like Multimedia Communications and Human Resource Management. This reflects an innovative mindset, and quick adaption to interdisciplinary trends while ensuring the quality of education meets societal needs.

The increasing participation of research and administrative agencies in recruitment is a positive sign, showing a balance between academic and practical requirements. The university commits to continuing innovation and development to support students in their future endeavours.

Facts have shown that social science and humanities students are not lacking in job opportunities, but, they need to be more proactive in learning, interning early, and developing diverse skills to fully grasp those opportunities. With support from universities and businesses, along with personal effort, it is believed that students can adapt and thrive in today's competitive labour market.
