Up to now, Australia has supported more than 26 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for Vietnam.
Specifically, three million doses of the Pfizer vaccine for adults were delivered to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, in September and an additional 1.2 million doses for children were shipped to Hanoi on October 24.
Five refrigerated vaccine vans have also been delivered to Vietnam, under the cooperative programme between Australia and UNICEF and have been taken to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology in Hanoi, the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, and the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang and the Central Highland Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology of Buon Ma Thuot city, in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak.
In addition, the support package also includes training for healthcare workers and conducting communication campaigns to remote and hard-to-reach areas across the country, ensuring the most vulnerable groups are not left behind.
Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski spoke highly of the recent vaccine deliveries and emphasised Australia's continued support for Vietnam, in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to UNICEF Chief Representative in Vietnam Rana Flowers, since the outbreak of the pandemic, UNICEF has prioritised the safe storage and transportation of vaccines to remote and hard-to-reach areas throughout Vietnam.
