Over the past 50 years, especially during the 33 years since the re-establishment of Binh Thuan Province (from 1992 to the present), under the leadership of the Party Central Committee and the Politburo, along with the support from the central departments, ministries, and agencies, the province has made great efforts to rise from being a poor locality with an underdeveloped economy, low budget revenue, weak infrastructure, and difficult living conditions for its people, to becoming a province with fairly comprehensive development.
The local annual GRDP growth rate has consistently remained at a solid level. By the end of 2024, the province’s economic scale reached over 128.7 trillion VND, ranking 26th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide.

Overthe past ten years, Binh Thuan has focused on developing its economy based on three key pillars, shifting from agriculture toward increased contributions from industry and services. To date, the province boasts 48 power plants, including thermal, hydroelectric, wind, and solar power, supplying 31.6 billion kWh per year. The total installed power generation capacity has reached 6,520 MW, accounting for 8% of the nation's total power capacity.
The province has attracted numerous large-scale investment projects, notably the Son My LNG Terminal, Son My I LNG Power Plant, and Son My II LNG Power Plant, with a combined capacity of 4,500 MW and a total investment of over 128 trillion VND. These projects have positioned Binh Thuan as one of Vietnam’s largest energy hubs, with its total projected power capacity expected to exceed 11,000 MW by 2030.
In recent years, Binh Thuan has welcomed nearly 10 million visitors annually, generating tourism revenue of approximately 1 billion USD yearly, placing it among the top ten provinces and cities nationwide in tourist numbers and revenue.
In 2024, Binh Thuan ranked third out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide in the Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI).
In his speech at the ceremony, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh said that from a region once described as “dry fields, scorched grass, and waiting for water”, Binh Thuan has now achieved remarkable success in its “drought management” efforts through its initiative to connect irrigation networks. These achievements have opened pathways for the province’s agricultural sector to thrive, producing valuable products now available in even the most discerning markets worldwide.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh delivers his speech at the ceremony. |
He praised the province for its positive socio-economic transformations in recent years, highlighting the shift in the economic structure in the right direction, transitioning from broad-based growth to more in-depth growth: the share of industry, construction, and services has been steadily increasing each year, infrastructure has gradually improved, and there has been synchronised investment, creating a positive effect in attracting investments.
These developments lay an important foundation for Binh Thuan to strive toward successfully implementing the 14th Provincial Party Congress’s Resolution for the 2020-2025 tenure, contributing to the nationwide efforts to achieve the success of the 13th Party Congress’s Resolution and advancing toward the 14th National Party Congress, confidently stepping into a new era of national growth and prosperity.
With double-digit annual growth in recent years, the Deputy Prime Minister encouraged the province to continue leveraging its strengths, addressing challenges, and aiming to become the national energy hub, an international-scale tourism centre, and a sustainable marine economic development centre for the entire country.
He urged the province to focus on organising Party congresses at all levels, working toward the 14th National Party Congress, promoting democracy, and enhancing solidarity within the entire Party organisation. It must vigorously implement and complete the central policy on the restructuring and reorganisation of government apparatus, as well as the development of the two-tier local government model.
Additionally, the province aims to develop through a balance between urban and rural areas, industry and agriculture, and land and coastal islands, striving for an average GRDP growth rate of double digits during 2025 – 2030.
