Chelsea held 0-0 by Liverpool again after Potter's exit

Chelsea were held to yet another 0-0 draw by Liverpool on Tuesday (Apr 5) in their first match since sacking coach Graham Potter with both sides displaying the same problems that have left them miles off the pace in this season's Premier League.

The goalless stalemate was the fourth in a row between the two teams - including last season's FA and League Cup finals both of which Liverpool won on penalties. The draw left Liverpool in eighth place in the league table, seven points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth Champions League qualifying spot having played a game less than Spurs. Chelsea stayed stuck in 11th place.

* Teenage striker Evan Ferguson scored with a clever back-heel as Brighton & Hove Albion kept alive their Champions League qualification hopes with a 2-0 Premier League victory over struggling Bournemouth on Tuesday. Brighton are in sixth place in the table with 46 points from 27 games, four points behind Newcastle United in third, while Bournemouth remain in the bottom three with 27 points from 29 matches.

* Leeds United came from a goal down to beat fellow Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest 2-1 at a raucous Elland Road and move out of the relegation zone on Tuesday. They are in 13th place with 29 points from 29 games played, two points clear of the relegation zone, while Forest's worrying slide continues.

* Aston Villa plunged Leicester City deeper into relegation danger with a 2-1 away win in the Premier League on Tuesday after the home side played the last 20 minutes with 10 men and had a stoppage-time penalty ruled out by VAR. Leicester, surprise champions in 2015-16, have not won a game in all competitions since Feb 11 and have lost seven of their last eight.

* There will be no away fans at both legs of the Europa League quarter-final between Feyenoord and AS Roma, after a decision by UEFA followed the Italian authorities' ban on Dutch supporters, the Eredivisie side said on Tuesday.

* Former president of the Peruvian Football Association Manuel Burga Seoane has been banned from all football-related activities for life by FIFA for participating in bribery schemes, world soccer's governing body said on Tuesday. Seoane was also ordered to pay a fine of 1 million Swiss francs (US$1.10 million) for breaching articles in FIFA's Code of Ethics related to conflicts of interest, bribery and corruption, and offering and accepting gifts or other benefits among others.

* Freiburg stunned favourites Bayern Munich 2-1 in their German Cup quarter-final on Tuesday thanks to a second-half stoppage-time penalty from Lucas Hoeler. Eintracht Frankfurt also booked their spot in the last four with a 2-0 victory over Union Berlin thanks to Randal Kolo Muani's double within three minutes.

* Manchester United will face Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in July in Las Vegas as a part of the club's summer tour to the United States, the Premier League club said on Tuesday. The match will be played at the Allegiant Stadium on Jul 30 and is the second fixture of the tour, after United announced in March they will face non-league Wrexham in San Diego on Jul 25.

* Switzerland will host the 2025 Women's European Championship, European soccer's governing body UEFA said on Tuesday. Switzerland last hosted a major soccer tournament in 2008, staging that year's edition of the men's Euros along with neighbours Austria. The previous edition of the tournament was held in England in 2022, where the hosts won the title after beating Germany in the final at Wembley Stadium.

* Rafael Nadal will miss next week's Monte Carlo Masters having failed to recover in time from an injury that has sidelined him for months, he said on Tuesday, shortly before world No 2 Carlos Alcaraz also pulled out of the tournament. Nadal was forced to skip the Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells last month as well as the Miami Open that ended last week as he continues his recovery from a hip issue that ended his Australian Open title defence in the second round in January.
