Vice Chairman of Binh Phuoc Provincial People’s Committee Tran Tuyet Minh said that the conference is an opportunity for managers, experts, farmers, and consumers to review the cashew situation as well as the hinders to the development of the cashew industry, proposing solutions to enhance the value of the industry.
Delegates discussed issues related to new technology in cashew nut production, the use of seedlings, preliminary processing, new processed cashew products, technological solutions to deal with common diseases in cashew trees amid climate change, brand building for Binh Phuoc cashew products, and others.
As many as 45 booths were set up to showcase the products and technology of the cashew industry, including planting and care processes; technology and equipment serving harvesting, processing, and post-harvest preservation; and the production of cashew by-products.
Vietnam has become a leading exporter of cashew kernels in the world from a raw cashew exporter. Vietnam’s cashew industry has always maintained the number 1 position in terms of exporting cashew kernels since 2006.
Binh Phuoc is known as the cashew hub of Vietnam. The province currently has more than 152,000 ha of cashew, with an output of 170,000 tonnes per year, accounting for nearly 50% of the country’s cashew area and output. The province is also considered the leading cashew processing centre in the world producing about 500,000 tonnes of raw cashews per year.
The province recorded over 1 billion USD worth of cashew exports in 2022. Binh Phuoc cashew products have been exported to more than 50 countries around the globe, accounting for 70% of the export market share of the world cashew industry.
