On October 28 (local time), at the Russian Cultural Centre in Budapest, Hungary, the Vietnamese Embassy, in coordination with the Embassies of the Russian Federation and Belarus, organised the programme “Back to our shared memories — A cultural exchange among Russia, Viet Nam, and Belarus in Hungary.”
The programme provided an opportunity for former Vietnamese students who had studied in the former Soviet Union, including Russia and Belarus, to revisit their memories of student life, reconnect with one another, and further strengthen the bonds of friendship between Viet Nam, Russia, and Belarus.
The event was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Bui Le Thai, Russian Ambassador Evgeny Stanislavov, Belarusian Ambassador Uladzimir Ulakhovich, officials from the three embassies, numerous Vietnamese alumni who had studied in Russia and Belarus, and local friends.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Bui Le Thai expressed his deep appreciation for the invaluable assistance that the former Soviet Union had provided to Viet Nam.
Ambassador Bui Le Thai emphasised that what generations of Vietnamese students brought home from the Soviet Union was not merely academic qualifications or professional knowledge, but also the Russian language, an understanding of Russia’s culture and people, the affection of teachers and friends, and unforgettable memories of their youth.
The Russian Ambassador highly valued the role of Vietnamese alumni in preserving the Russian language and culture and serving as a bridge to foster friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries.
Recognising the contributions made by generations of Vietnamese students to Russia's development and Viet Nam–Russia relations, Ambassador Evgeny Stanislavov expressed his confidence that future generations of students would continue to serve as a strong bridge of friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
At the programme, Belarusian Ambassador Uladzimir Ulakhovich shared his thoughts and memories of the close ties forged by the generations of Vietnamese students who have studied in Minsk and at educational institutions across Belarus.
In a warm and moving atmosphere, former students reminisced together about their years of study and the teachers and friends they had met in Russia and Belarus. They also enjoyed artistic performances and traditional dishes from Viet Nam, Russia, and Belarus.
The gathering helped promote people-to-people exchanges and strengthen friendship between Viet Nam, Russia, and Belarus while showcasing Vietnamese culture and cuisine in Budapest in anticipation of Viet Nam Culture Day on 24 November.
