Politburo member Huynh was on a working visit to the central city from November 30 to December 1 to inform local voters of outcomes of the recent-concluded 14th National Assembly (NA)’s second session.
Speaking at the meetings, Da Nang voters expressed confidence in relation to the Party, State and NA’s efforts in making prompt and effective decisions for socioeconomic development, stabilising and improving people's lives and strengthening national security.
They also mentioned problems related to environmental pollution, a lack of management of natural resources and policies for people who have made contributions to the nation’s revolution.
Local voters suggested the NA strengthen its oversight role in the prevention and fight against corruption, while requesting relevant authorities to strictly revise and crackdown on individuals with irregularities.
They also asked the NA and NA deputies to investigate, clarify and deal with mistakes and “group interests” in development projects to strengthen trust among officials, Party members and the people.
Several voters worried about the Viet Phap Steel Plant in the town of Dien Ban, Quang Nam province that recently caused serious pollution.
They also expressed their desire that the Party and State would pour more investment into maritime economic development to encourage fishermen to head back to sea and contribute to protecting the national sacred sovereignty over its sea and islands.
Politburo member Huynh praised opinions of local voters raised at the meetings and recommended the NA and the State authorities to adjust and strengthen supervision over law enforcement.
Regarding concerns of voters about the steel plant project on the Vu Gia River upstream, he affirmed that shortly after the meetings, the NA deputy delegation of Da Nang would submit a document to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, informing them about the voters’ opinions and proposals.
He requested the two agencies to strengthen supervision over plant construction and installation of waste treatment and environmental monitoring systems to prevent the re-occurrence of incidents causing environmental pollution and affecting the life and production of locals in both Da Nang and Quang Nam.
