In his opening speech, Tran Hong Thai, Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, emphasised that 50 years ago, on April 3, 1975, the revolutionary flag flew before the Tuyen Duc provincial governor's residence (now the headquarters of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee), marking a significant historical milestone: Da Lat-Tuyen Duc-Lam Dong was liberated.
This was a great historical significant event, creating favourable conditions for the main force units to continue their attack against the enemy, liberating the remaining provinces of Zone VI, connecting National Highway 1A and Route 20 to provide manpower and property to support our troops and people to advance to liberate Saigon. Through the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, we liberated the South and reunified the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Phan Van Giang said that Lam Dong Province is in the southern Central Highlands and has a crucial strategic position regarding the economy, society, national defence, and security. It serves as a trading hub and a key connection point linking the three regions of the Central Highlands, the Southeast region, and the Central Coast region.
After liberation day, the Party Committee, authorities, military, and people of Lam Dong Province upheld the spirit of solidarity and the aspiration to advance, promoted their potential and advantages to reconstruct and develop the province and achieved significant results.
Today, Lam Dong has become one of the rather well-developed provinces of the country, ranking among the 38 provinces and cities with annual budget revenues exceeding 10 trillion VND. Tourism is a highlight for the Central Highlands and the entire country, with the Da Lat Flower Festival becoming an internationally recognised brand. Cultural and social sectors have achieved many positive results; the people's central role has been affirmed; the rural landscape has seen significant improvements, and the quality of residents’ lives has been enhanced.
