Addressing a ceremony to mark the 60th anniversary of the university’s foundation in Hanoi on November 12, the PM urged the university to strongly innovate training programmes and teaching methods to train high-quality human resources.
Expressing his appreciation for the NEU’s achievements, he highlighted the importance of the changing mindsets on the development of education and training, saying that a modern university ought to simultaneously care about scientific knowledge, self-study methods and soft skills.
He suggested the university develop into a model for the self-management of public universities under the law on tertiary education, stressing that this will be key to improving the quality of education and renovating the management of tertiary education.
It is necessary to ensure the quality of education to meet the demand of the labour market in the context of regional and international integration, he said.
The university should enhance its links with enterprisers in applying the results of scientific research and creating jobs for students after graduation, he noted.
He expressed his belief that with its great achievements over the last six decades, the NEU will become a prestigious research-orientated multidisciplinary university in terms of economics and business administration.
As a leader among Vietnam’s economics universities, the NEU acts as a centre for training students in economics and business administration in Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctorate training programmes in Vietnam. It also maintained its connection with the Central Economic Committee and the National Assembly’s Economic Committee via economic seminars and workshops.
The university has built a scientific database system, which it has shared widely with 40 universities and economics and business administration academies nationwide.
It has also cooperated with many universities, research institutes and international organisations in the UK, France, the US, Sweden, Japan, Canada, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, the UN Development Programme and the World Bank.
On the occasion of the event, PM Phuc presented the Labour Order, first class, to the university for the second time.
