On September 25, the Cinema Department issued Official Dispatch No. 1919/DA-VP on compliance with regulations governing the dissemination of films in cyberspace.
According to the document, alongside the development of digital technology and online content services, the dissemination of films in cyberspace has become increasingly diverse in form and greater in volume, including a growing number of products presented as “short films”.
The Cinema Department has found that some organisations and individuals distributing films online have failed to comply, or fully comply, with the conditions and procedures stipulated under cinematography regulations.
The department has requested a review of relevant activities to ensure that content providers meet the required conditions. Films must also be classified, with lists and classification results notified before distribution, while requirements concerning the display of ratings, warnings and child protection must be properly observed.
Short films that fail to meet all required conditions and related distribution obligations will be promptly blocked and must not continue to be provided or disseminated until the necessary conditions and procedures have been fulfilled.
The Cinema Department said it would coordinate with relevant agencies and units to inspect, review and verify cases showing signs of violations.
