Earlier on September 20, ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the President still managed to write a congratulatory letter to children despite his poor health. The letter was filled with his love and responsibility towards to the future generations of the country. It was his last letter.
In the days before, as the head of state, President Tran Dai Quang continuously chaired important meetings and received many diplomatic delegations and foreign guests. His tireless spirit without regard for his illness has left a feeling of respect among the people.
Through his leadership at key agencies of the Ministry of Public Security and the country, with dedication and a sense of responsibility, President Tran Dai Quang made many contributions to the Party and the nation. Born in Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province, at a time when the country was still struggling with many difficulties, he soon embraced revolutionary ideals and patriotism.
Over more than 40 years of dedication, from an officer at the Political Protection Department (Ministry of Home Affairs, now Ministry of Public Security) to becoming the President, he was always ready to accept all difficulties and obstacles to fulfil his tasks.
As President of Vietnam, he made many contributions to the country’s reform and development, from judicial reform and national security protection to international relations expansion, helping to bring the country forward firmly on the path of international economic integration.
Together with the Party, State and people, he made great efforts to help the country overcome periods of challenge in order to stabilise the macroeconomy, ensure social security, and maintain the country’s security, politics and sovereignty. Such efforts have helped lift Vietnam to new heights.
President Tran Dai Quang was a State leader who always paid attention to poverty reduction and introduced many policies and mechanisms to support the people, farmers and workers to improve their living standards. He inherited the Doi Moi reform led by the Party and built on the significant achievements of his predecessors.
President Tran Dai Quang was a loyal Party member, a bright example of dedication to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the Vietnamese nation. He has passed away but the image of a President dedicated to national reform, helping the people reduce poverty and moving the country firmly on the path of international integration will remain in the mind of the people.
With a deep sense of grief at President Tran Dai Quang’s passing, the entire Party, army and people are determined to unite on the revolutionary path, push through industrialisation and modernisation, and successfully construct and protect a socialist Vietnam.
