On October 30, the 24th ASEAN Federation of Accountants Conference (AFA 24), hosted by Viet Nam, officially opened at the National Convention Centre under the theme “Green Accounting and Finance: Shaping a Sustainable Future.”
In his opening remarks, Professor, Doctor Doan Xuan Tien, President of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA), said that “The 24th AFA Conference and the 141st AFA Council Meeting are comprehensive and significant events on our agenda. This is an opportunity to review achievements and define the next steps for the ASEAN Federation of Accountants.”
He also emphasised that the conference has affirmed the position of Viet Nam’s accounting and auditing sector in the international arena, while providing a valuable opportunity to strengthen connections and professional exchanges with international organisations. The event contributes to promoting integration and the adoption of global accounting standards, particularly in sustainable accounting and green finance.
In his address, Le Tan Can, Deputy Minister of Finance, stated that in the context of digitalisation and the green economy, accountants are no longer merely “recording the past” but also shaping the future through data analysis, ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) frameworks, risk warning, and policy advisory based on transparent data.
The Deputy Minister added that Viet Nam is promoting digital government, digital economy, and digital society; encouraging the application of AI, blockchain, and cloud computing in accounting–auditing–sustainability reporting, while prioritising data security, confidentiality, and technological ethics.
Therefore, Deputy Minister Le Tan Can called on the ASEAN Federation of Accountants and its partners to focus on developing pilot mechanisms for assessing ESG data, standardising and verifying information, and building capacity, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Jean Bouquot, President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), highly appreciated the role of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants, recognising it as one of the important hubs of the global economy.
As Chair of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) for the 2024–2025 term, Viet Nam has implemented numerous initiatives and programmes to advance the accounting and auditing profession within ASEAN. It has also offered important policy recommendations, reaffirming the growing role and position of Viet Nam’s accounting and auditing sector in the context of deep international integration.
These achievements not only enhance the capacity of the regional accounting and auditing community but also establish a solid foundation for cooperation and sustainable development across the region.
