The statement was made by Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai at a conference held in Hanoi on May 12 to review the five years of implementing the national target programme on building new-style rural areas and to deploy the programme No. 02-CTr/TU on agricultural development, building new-style rural areas and gradually improving the lives of farmers’ in Hanoi in the 2016-2020 period.
The Secretary noted that Hanoi should mobilise budget of the city and all districts as well as enhance socialisation in building new-style rural areas, particularly encouraging the contribution from economic components, organisations, enterprises and individuals in order to accelerate investment in technical and social infrastructure.
In addition, it is essential to accelerate agricultural restructuring, application of advanced technologies and develop the value chain in agricultural production, added Secretary Hai.
He also asked the capital’s authorities to focus on cultural and social development as well as preserving and promoting cultural identities and traditional customs of people as well as maintaining political security and social order and safety in rural areas.
Over the past five years of implementing the national target programme on building new-style rural areas, Hanoi has gained outstanding results. So far, 100% communes completed the plan for building new-style rural areas; 201/386 communes met all 19 criteria for the rural building programme, and the average per capita income in rural areas increased from VND14 million per year to VND33 million per year.
The city has set a target of having over 80% communes and ten districts and towns meeting the new-style rural area criteria by 2020.
On the occasion, Hanoi Party Secretary Hoang Trung Hai presented the Prime Minister’s certificates of merit to 20 collectives and individuals for their outstanding achievements in building new-style rural areas.
