During the American resistance war, Kon Tum was a fierce battlefield, where the American troops and the Saigon army deployed many strategies, operations and raids to suppress revolutionary movements.

On March 4 1975, the Tay Nguyen Campaign began in Kon Tum Province. By the night of March 16, Vietnamese troops had taken control of key military and political areas, eliminated all the enemy's final resistance strongholds, and quickly occupied the entire town of Kon Tum.

Liberation flags flew across Kon Tum, as people of all ethnicities in the province celebrated and welcomed the liberating soldiers.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kon Tum Chairman Le Ngoc Tuan said this was an opportunity for all the people in the province to reflect on the history of their heroic revolutionary struggle.

In the past 50 years, Kon Tum Province has recorded economic growth rates that are consistently higher year after year.

In the past three years, the province has led the Central Highlands with growth rates of 8-9% per year.

The province’s current income per capita has reached over 68 million VND (2,600 USD). The poverty rate has dropped dramatically from 57% in 1995 to just 4.32% by the end of 2024.

Five decades later, Kon Tum Province is making progress in all fields. Urban areas are being expanded and upgraded, while people's living standards are increasingly improved.
