Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta, Thohir said that as ASEAN Chair this year, Indonesia will host the ASEAN Summit on May 9-11 in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, during which it aims to promote regional peace and economy.

At the ASEAN Summit, Indonesia will remain consistent with projecting the message at the G20, held in Bali last November, during which President Joko Widodo pushed for globalization policies that benefit not only developed countries but also developing ones.

"Economic growth centre" is one of the three main pillars of Indonesia's 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship. This pillar includes many priorities such as strengthening the region's health structure through the "One Health" initiative, enhancing food and energy security, and developing a regional electric vehicle ecosystem, promoting the use of ASEAN's local currencies in commercial transactions and connecting payment mechanisms in the region.
