At the press conference announcing socio-economic statistics for the fourth quarter and the full year 2025, held on the afternoon of January 5, 2026, the Statistics Department said the IIP for the fourth quarter is estimated to increase 9.9% year-on-year, including: manufacturing and processing up 10.8%; electricity production and distribution up 8.0%; water supply and waste and wastewater management and treatment up 5.3%; and mining up 3.4%.
In 2019–2024, industrial production indices rose by 9.1%, 3.3%, 4.7%, 7.4%, 1.3%, and 8.2% compared to the previous year, respectively. In 2025, the IIP is estimated to increase 9.2% compared to the previous year—the highest rise since 2019.
Nguyen Thi Huong, Head of the Statistics Department, said the industry and construction sector recorded impressive growth, with manufacturing and processing—the pillar of industrial output—continuing to rise by more than 10%, helping drive export growth as well as overall economic growth in 2025.
By contrast, the IIP in some industries rose only slightly or declined: hard coal and lignite mining increased 2.5%, while crude petroleum and natural gas extraction fell 2.5%.
In 2025, the IIP increased year-on-year in all 34 localities. Several localities recorded relatively high IIP growth thanks to strong increases in manufacturing and processing, and in electricity production and distribution. Conversely, some localities saw low IIP growth because manufacturing and processing, electricity production and distribution, and mining recorded low growth or declines.
Phi Thi Phuong Nga, Head of the Industrial and Construction Statistics Division of the Statistics Department, said that in 2025 production faced many difficulties stemming from global tariff policies and successive natural disasters in Viet Nam; however, industrial production overcame these challenges and posted positive results, reflecting the sector’s recovery and growth.
