The event attracted nearly 300 delegates representing Vietnamese and international businesses, corporations, banks and investment funds, as well as news agencies and media organisations.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duc Chi said the strong presence of leading UK investors and financial institutions reflected the international financial community’s growing interest in Viet Nam.
According to the Deputy Minister, Viet Nam–UK relations are entering a new phase of deeper and more substantive development, particularly following the upgrade of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Considerable room remains for cooperation in capital markets, green finance, fintech, trade finance, international financial centre development, infrastructure and energy.
Amid major shifts in global capital flows, Viet Nam remains steadfast in its goals of maintaining macroeconomic stability, improving the investment environment, promoting innovation, digital transformation and green growth, while prioritising high-quality and long-term capital flows associated with the transfer of knowledge, technology and management expertise.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Duc Chi said a range of coordinated measures have been implemented to develop the capital market, including improving the institutional framework, upgrading technological infrastructure and trading mechanisms for foreign investors, enhancing information transparency, and preparing to introduce a central counterparty clearing (CCP) mechanism.
FTSE Russell’s upgrade of Viet Nam’s stock market to Secondary Emerging Market status has been viewed as recognition of the country’s substantive reforms, while opening a new phase of market development. The Government and the Ministry of Finance will continue improving mechanisms and policies towards greater transparency and fairness, safeguarding investors’ legitimate rights and interests, and improving market accessibility for global investors.
At the conference, FCA representative Dom Holland said Viet Nam is increasingly establishing itself as an important capital market attracting significant interest in Asia. In his view, the country’s reform efforts, together with FTSE Russell’s upgrade of the Vietnamese stock market, are helping strengthen investor confidence and creating further opportunities to attract international capital.
The FCA representative emphasised the importance of strengthening connectivity between capital markets and affirmed its readiness to share practical experience and promote cooperation with Viet Nam in pursuit of sustainable development.
Four panel discussions held during the conference focused on key issues, including the transformation of the capital market and the stock market upgrade; mobilising capital for the next phase of growth; accessing international equity capital through Global Depositary Receipts (GDRs); and global investors’ perspectives on Viet Nam.
The conference is expected to strengthen connectivity between Viet Nam’s capital market and London’s financial centre, while promoting exchanges among regulators, market institutions, businesses and international investors, thereby opening up further opportunities for cooperation and investment between Viet Nam and the UK.
