The vessel, led by Director Hiroyuki Nanaura, arrived with 45 crew members and 49 trainees aboard.

During the stay, officers from the Japanese ship are due to pay courtesy calls to the city’s leaders and the Vietnam Coast Guard High Command, visit the Maritime Search and Rescue Co-ordination Centre Region II; and play friendly volleyball matches with their counterparts from the Coast Guard Region 2.

The Vietnam Coast Guard and the Japan Coast Guard are both active members of the Regional Co-operation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP).

Both sides have worked closely together on strengthening law enforcement at sea.

It is the fourth visit to Vietnam by the Japanese side and the second by KOJIMA.

The visit of the Japanese ship aims to realise the contents of cooperation reached by the leaders of the two countries’ Parties, States and Defence Ministries.

It is also taking place as relations are thriving, particularly in defence, between Vietnam and Japan in the framework of a newly developing bilateral strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.
