The airport project is being implemented through four component projects, together with the transport infrastructure connecting to the airport.

According to the Airports Corporation of Viet Nam (ACV), so far, 12 of the 16 construction packages have met the basic schedule requirements for the airport’s planned commercial operation from December 24, 2026.

ACV leaders said that the commercial operation of Long Thanh Airport has been planned based on the principle of gradually increasing its scale of operations.

In Phase 1, from December 2026 to March 2027, the passenger terminal will operate its western wing and central area.

Viet Nam Airlines and Vietjet are expected to register operations equivalent to 6-10% of the airport’s designed capacity, or around 20-30 flights per day, focusing on domestic routes and short-haul international routes.

Total traffic is expected to reach a maximum of 366 flights per week.

For cargo, part of Cargo Terminal 1 will serve domestic cargo from December 24, 2026. From January 2027, the terminal will begin handling international flights.

In Phase 2, from April to October 2027, as Viet Nam Airlines and Vietjet continue to add international routes and some other domestic routes, passenger traffic is expected to reach 50% of the airport’s designed capacity.

In Phase 3, from October 2027, based on the winter flight schedule, the airport is set to officially begin operating at 100% of its designed capacity, with a full network of international and domestic routes, including cargo services.

Long Thanh Airport is being built on an area of approximately 5,000 hectares in Long Thanh Ward, Dong Nai City. The project has a total investment of approximately 16 billion USD.

Long Thanh Airport is being developed in three phases, with the aim of reaching a capacity of 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo per year. It is expected to become one of the region’s major international airports and an aviation hub.

Phase 1 has a total investment of approximately 5.45 billion USD and includes two runways, a passenger terminal, and a comprehensive range of supporting facilities.
