Nearly 160 representatives from Malaysian travel agencies took part in trip to Phu Quoc to survey its tourism, to bring international visitors to the "pearl island".

On August 9, the Department of Tourism of Kien Giang Province coordinated with the People's Committee of Phu Quoc City and Visit Indochina Company, to welcome 157 representatives from the largest travel agencies in Malaysia to Phu Quoc, to survey the tourism market to bring international visitors to this locality in the near future.

Notably, the group also included Mita, Chairman of Golden Destination Group and members of tour operators operating cruise tourism, MICE tourism, group guests and many other new markets to visit and survey the "pearl island".

Malaysia is one of the largest markets for visitors to Vietnam in the first six months of 2024 (ranked 5th out of 10 international visitor markets to Vietnam), reaching 354,000 arrivals, up 9.3% over the same period. Air Asia has direct flights weekly from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Phu Quoc, since international tourism has recovered.

This is an opportunity to introduce and promote Phu Quoc tourism to the Malaysian market in the coming time. Currently, Phu Quoc City has international flights including Taiwan (China), Hong Kong, Shanghai (China), Malaysia, Thailand, and the Republic of Korea.

Deputy Director of Kien Giang Department of Tourism Nguyen Chi Thanh said, that Malaysia is one of the 20 countries with the largest number of visitors to Phu Quoc and is considered a potential market.

In recent years, Phu Quoc has attracted more than 90% of international visitors to Kien Giang Province. The locality has increased promotion and advertising of the image of the "pearl island" on social networking sites such as Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and WhatsApp, with a large number of users in the world.

In addition, Phu Quoc City also takes advantage of activities such as international conferences, seminars, and fairs, to promote Phu Quoc tourism to international friends.

According to the Kien Giang Department of Tourism, in July 2024, Phu Quoc welcomed nearly 636,200 visitors (up 3.3% over the same period), of which international visitors are expected at 63,200 (up 27.4% over the same period), and total revenue from tourism activities reached 1,640 billion VND (up 14.1% over the same period).

In the first seven months of 2024, Phu Quoc is estimated to welcome nearly 4 million visitors (reaching 59.2% of the yearly plan), of which international visitors are estimated at 562,300 visitors, with total revenue from tourism activities of more than VND 12,844 billion (reaching 75.6% of the yearly plan).
