Speaking at the celebration, Malaysian Ambassador Dato Azmil Bin Mohamed Zabidi noted the relations between Vietnam and Malaysia have been enhanced in multiple areas since they officially established diplomatic ties 42 years ago.

In the past two years, a lot of high-ranking delegation visits were exchanged, including Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s official visit to Malaysia in August, he added.

Present at the function, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh expressed hope that the Vietnam-Malaysia strategic partnership would contribute to building regional trust and strengthening solidarity and unity as well as promoting ASEAN’s central role in the region’s strategic issues.

He noted that as ASEAN members and coastal countries, both countries’ futures will be linked closely for the interests of their people, as well as for peace, stability, co-operation and development in the region, contributing to a successful and strong ASEAN Community.

Malaysia is among the ten largest investors in Vietnam with 495 projects. Currently, two-way trade between the two countries is nearly US$10 billion.
