Earlier on August 24, the State-level funeral was held for Deputy PM Le Van Thanh.

The memorial ceremony for the late Deputy PM began at 7am, featuring the attendance of PM Pham Minh Chinh; former President Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Deputy PMs: Le Minh Khai, Tran Hong Ha and Tran Luu Quang; Vice Chairman of National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai; leaders and former leaders of the Party and State; representatives of central and local ministries, agencies, international organisations and people of Hai Phong City.
In an eulogy read at the memorial service, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Deputy PM Le Minh Khai noted that during his whole life of study, dedication and service to the revolutionary cause of the Party and national construction and defence, regardless of his position, comrade Le Van Thanh was a shining example of political bravery and pioneering spirit of innovation, dared to think, to do and to take responsibility, devotedly served the fatherland and people. He has been trusted by the organisations and people and respected by his colleagues.
He was a loyal revolutionary member, who constantly strived, studied and followed President Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts, morality and lifestyle and an example of industriousness, thrift, integrity, and impartiality. The comrade made great contributions to preserving the unity among the Party and the common cause, as well as putting the interests of the Party, the country and the people first and foremost.

As a senior leader of the Party and State, comrade Le Van Thanh always devoted his wisdom and enthusiasm to contribute many important ideas to the great issues of the country.
As Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, he left many imprints with decisions to help the city develop strongly and dynamically.
During his tenure as Deputy PM, he focused on directing the development of the institutional system in the fields assigned to him, as well as gave many directions to contribute to solving inter-sectoral issues, promoting the implementation of strategic transport infrastructure projects, directing the implementation and completion of several national sectoral plans, regional plans and provincial plans.
He well performed the responsibilities of a Government member, making important contributions to the tasks of the Government. His decisions have always been aimed at serving the legitimate rights and interests of the people.
For his outstanding merits and achievements, Deputy PM Le Van Thanh was honoured with the Third-class Labour Order, Second-class Labour Order, the title of National Emulation Soldier, and many other noble rewards.
Comrade Le Van Thanh was born on October 20, 1962, in Tan Lien Commune, Vinh Bao District, Hai Phong City. He resided at House No.217 on Lach Tray Street, Ngo Quyen District, Hai Phong City. He joined the service in February 1988 and was admitted to the Party on June 24, 1997. He was a Member of the Party Central Committee for the 12th and 13th tenures; Deputy PM; former Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Hai Phong City; and a deputy to the 12th National Assembly.
The burial service was held later on the same day at a cemetery in his homeland in Tan Lien Commune, Vinh Bao District, Hai Phong City.
