Receiving Kounlaphanh Vongnathy, Vice President of the Phongsupthavy Group, in Hanoi on December 12, Deputy PM Son said the delegation’s visit demonstrates the cooperative spirit and special solidarity between Viet Nam and Laos, particularly in the strategically important field of energy.
He urged the Lao enterprise to maintain close coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Viet Nam Electricity (EVN), and related localities to ensure the smooth rollout of ongoing projects. He also emphasised the need for full compliance with Vietnamese law, alongside efforts to safeguard the national power system and protect the environment.
Deputy PM Son encouraged the group to explore opportunities for broader collaboration, including in carbon credit mechanisms and energy infrastructure, and called on it to take part in ASEAN Power Grid initiatives and other regional cooperation frameworks such as Mekong–Lancang.
For his part, Kounlaphanh Vongnathy reiterated the group’s commitment to carrying out joint energy projects in accordance with the legal frameworks of both countries. He affirmed the company’s determination to realise its plan to export some 6,000 MW of electricity to Viet Nam in the coming years.
Expressing confidence in the prospects of bilateral cooperation, Deputy PM Son said that clear strategic guidance from top leaders and the long-standing foundation of trust between the two countries will help ensure the success of the group’s partnership with Viet Nam, further advancing Lao–Vietnamese energy cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.
Founded in 2001, the Phongsupthavy Group first specialised in bridge and road construction, irrigation, and infrastructure development. Since 2011, it has diversified into mining, agriculture, and clean energy, including hydropower, solar, and wind energy.
