* Atletico Madrid have asked La Liga to block French forward Antoine Griezmann's move to Barcelona in a dispute over the transfer fee between the two clubs, according to the Spanish league's president Javier Tebas. Spanish champions Barcelona announced the signing of Griezmann this month for 120 million euros but Atletico complained that the Catalan club had not paid enough to trigger the player's release clause, which had dropped from 200 million euros to 120 million euros on July 1.
* Jorge Lorenzo will miss the Czech and Austrian MotoGP races as the Spanish rider continues his recovery from fractured vertebrae, his Honda team said on Wednesday. Lorenzo, a three times MotoGP world champion and team mate of championship leader and compatriot Marc Marquez, crashed during practice at Assen in the Netherlands last month.
* Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio is facing several months out of action after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a pre-season friendly against Arsenal in the United States. The Spanish winger scored the equaliser for Real in the second half before his foot seemed to get caught in the turf as he tussled for possession with Arsenal's Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang at the 60-minute mark in Maryland on Tuesday.

* Aston Villa have signed Egypt international Mahmoud Hassan, better known by his nickname 'Trezeguet', from Turkish side Kasimpasa, the newly promoted Premier League side said on Wednesday. The 24-year-old started his career with Egyptian side Al Ahly and had a stint at Anderlecht in Belgium before moving to Turkey. He played for Egypt at last year's World Cup in Russia and at this year's Africa Cup of Nations, where he scored one goal in four appearances.

* Brazil's top-ranked women's tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia has been provisionally suspended after failing a drug test, the International Tennis Federation has said. Haddad Maia, the world number 99, provided a sample for testing on June 4 during the Croatia Open that was found to contain selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs).
* Argentina captain Lionel Messi has been banned for one game and fined US$1,500 after being sent off against Chile in the Copa America third-place playoff and levelling accusations of "corruption" at South American soccer chiefs.

* Juventus beat arch rivals Inter Milan through a thrilling penalty shootout to go 5-4 on aggregate in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday after they played out a 1-1 draw in regular time. Cristiano Ronaldo's stunning free kick in the second half canceled out Inter Milan's lead. In the penalty shootout, both sides had three attempts on target in the previous five rounds. Boria Valero missed his kick in the sixth round while Merih Demiral from Juventus kept his cool to convert it.
