National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong met with Deputy Speaker of Swedish Parliament Julia Kronlid on April 6 (local time), within the framework of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-150) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

At the meeting, NA Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Sweden, which is Vietnam's leading important partner in Northern Europe.

Vietnam always remembers and is grateful for Sweden's effective support and assistance to Vietnam in the past struggle for national independence and reunification, as well as in the current development and international integration, especially with highly symbolic projects such as the Bai Bang Paper Mill, tree planting, afforestation, and poverty reduction in many provinces in Northern Vietnam.

The deputy speaker of Swedish Parliament affirmed that Vietnam is a long-standing important friend of Sweden. She expressed admiration for the rapid transformation and strong socio-economic development of Vietnam.

She affirmed that Sweden also needs to learn from Vietnam's experience in several fields, and is ready to promote cooperation with Vietnam in education-training, science-technology, and trade-investment.

The two sides highly appreciated the positive developments in the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries over the past 55 years, and agreed to implement measures to strengthen the relationship, including the Sectoral Strategic Partnership in the fields of scientific research, technology, and capacity building.

The deputy speaker of Swedish Parliament agreed to appreciate the role, contributions and readiness to support the Vietnamese community working and living in Sweden.

They agreed to increase delegation exchanges and contacts between specialised committees and groups of female parliamentarians and young parliamentarians of the two legislative bodies, actively exchange information, share management experiences, and build laws and policies in the fields of digital transformation and educational cooperation.

NA Vice President Tran Quang Phuong expressed his hope that the Swedish Parliament will soon establish a parliamentary friendship group with Vietnam.

The two sides also agreed to continue to strengthen consultation, close coordination and mutual support at international organisations and forums, including inter-parliamentary forums.
