National conference marks 50 years of Vietnamese literature and art after national reunification

A national conference, reviewing 50 years of Vietnamese literature and arts since national reunification (30 April, 1975 – 30 April, 2025) take place in Hanoi, on April 25.

The event was organised by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation, the Office of the Party Central Committee, the Office of the National Assembly, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations.

In his address, Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC), and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation, noted that over the past five decades, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnamese literature and the arts have made remarkable strides, achieving significant accomplishments in theoretical thinking, creative practice.

Nguyen Trong Nghia also highlighted a number of key tasks and solutions to further promote the role and mission of literature and the arts, as well as the community of writers and artists, with a focus on building an advanced Vietnamese literature and arts deeply imbued with national identity in the new development phase.

At the conference, participants presented papers reaffirming the achievements and contributions of Vietnamese literature and the arts over the past 50 years since reunification. They also proposed policy orientations and development strategies for the next stage.

As part of the conference, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism organised the exhibition with the theme “50 Years of Vietnamese literature and arts accompanying the country”, aiming to reaffirm the Party’s and State’s consistent guidelines on the development of literature and the arts, and the important role of Vietnamese literature and arts in national liberation and developing the country.

The exhibition features more than 200 photographs and 200 objects and documents under the themes: the Party and State leaders’ attention to the development of literature and the arts; an overview of achievements in Vietnamese literature and the arts over the past 50 years; and information on outstanding works, collections, and authors honoured with the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Literature and the Arts.

The organisers hope the exhibition will inspire and motivate writers and artists to continue dedicating their talents, intellect, solidarity, and creativity to producing works of high ideological and artistic value, contributing positively to building and advancing a progressive Vietnamese culture rich in national identity, and playing an essential role in the country’s development in the new era.
