Born in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre in 1962, Phong has a master’s degree in economics. He is a Party Central Committee member and was the Chairman of the committee in the last tenure.
At the function, Le Van Liem, Le Van Khoa, Tran Vinh Tuyen and Nguyen Thi Thu Thao were elected as Phong’s deputies for the new tenure.
Participants also voted to elect 22 members of the committee and 88 jurors of the municipal People’s Court.
Previously, the chairperson and deputies of the 9th HCM City People’s Council for 2016-2021 were selected by a vote. Chairperson Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam said the priorities of her agency in this tenure is to improve residents’ living standards as well as the transparency and efficiency of the local authorities.
