The declaration of Non Nuoc Cao Bang as global geopark was made under a resolution approved by the UNESCO Executive Board during its 204th session held in Paris, France, on April 12 (local time) in recognition of its diverse landscapes and spiritual cultural values.
Addressing the event, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his delight at Non Nuoc Cao Bang’s award of the UNESCO status, which makes it the second Vietnamese geopark to be awarded the title, following the recognition of Dong Van Karst Plateau in Ha Giang province in December 2010.
UNESCO’s recognition for Non Nuoc Cao Bang will contribute to promoting the images of the Vietnamese land and people to the world, he stressed.
He called on the Cao Bang provincial authorities to take full advantage of its available potential of natural resources and historical traditions in order to further develop the tourism sector, while attaching more attention to safeguarding its cultural identity.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister presented a decision announcing the historical relic site on Border Victory in 1950 in Thach An district as a special national site to the Cao Bang provincial Party Committee, authorities, and people.
