Vietnam’s NA Chairwoman pays official visit to Australia
Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan paid her official visit to Australia from November 29 –
During her stay, she talked with Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives Tony Smith and Senate President Scott Ryan in Canberra and met with Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, deputy head of the ruling Liberal Party of Australia and Australia’s Governor-General Peter Cosgrove..
The NA Chairwoman also received Australian students joining the New Colombo Plan (NCP) programme in Vietnam, met with President of the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Society (AVFS) Kim Sampson, and talked with the staff at the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of Vietnamese people in Australia. In addition, she visited several research establishments and met the leaders of Western Australia.
NA Chairwoman Ngan also attended the Vietnam-Australia Business Dialogue in Perth, Western Australia.

The ceremony to mark Lao National Day and Vietnam-Laos ties
The Lao Embassy in Vietnam held a ceremony on November 29 to mark the 42nd National Day of Laos and the 55th anniversary for the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Laos.
In his remarks, Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh congratulated Laos for its significant achievements in the last 42 years under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and expressed his belief that the Lao people will build an ever more prosperous and affluent nation.
FDI disbursement hits US$16 billion in eleven months
Disbursement of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam reached US$16 billion in 2017 as of November 20, up 11.9% compared to the same period last year.
Official figures show FDI pledges rose by nearly 83% year on year to an estimated US$33 billion, of which US$19.8 billion were committed to approximately 2,300 new projects.

The press conference to launch the National External Information Service Awards 2017
The National External Information Service Awards 2017 have been launched, with seven different categories including print media, radio broadcast, television broadcast, electronic media, press photo, landscape photo and book.
The competition is open to all Vietnamese people, both at home and abroad, as well as foreigners whose works can be either in Vietnamese or in a foreign language and must be published between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017.
Outstanding projects honoured at National Creative Youth Festival
As many as 35 most outstanding projects, products and initiatives at the 2017 National Creative Youth Festival were honoured in Hanoi on December 1.
They are relevant to different fields, including automation, information technology, healthcare, environment, security, defence and mechanics.
This year, the organising board received 254 projects from the local youth unions in many provinces and cities from around the country.

‘Em Chua 18’ (Jailbait) by director Le Thanh Son, outperformed 16 other nominees to win the Golden Lotus Award for best feature film in the 20th Vietnam Film Festival. The film also helped Kaity Nguyen to earn the Best Leading Actress Award.
Quy Binh took the Best Leading Actor Award for his role in ‘Bao Gio Co Yeu Nhau’ (When Will We Love).
Two Silver Lotus Awards in the feature film category were awarded to ‘Co Hau Gai’ (The House Maid) and ‘Cha Cong Con’ (Father and Son).
Vietnam wins four gold medals at the International Art Photography Contest
Vietnamese photographers won four gold medals for all four categories at the ninth International Art Photography Contest.
For portrait, FIAP’s gold prize went to the photo ‘Phu nu Thai’ (Thai ethnic women) by Vu Duy Boi, while two works titled ‘Tuyet voi dao Truong Sa’ (Wonderful Truong Sa archipalego) by Nguyen A and ‘Tu tam’ (From the heart) by Bui Viet Dong received gold medals from VAPA for the landscape and daily life categories, respectively.
At the freestyle event, photographer Tran Tuan Viet was honoured with the VAPA’s gold prize with his photo ‘Swan Lake’.
At the awards ceremony, 88 outstanding photos received prizes.
Vietnam wins four gold medals at World Weightlifting Championships

Thach Kim Tuan takes all the three gold medals of the 56kg category.
Vietnamese players brought home four gold medals from the on going IWF World Weightlifting Championships 2017 in Anaheim, the United States.
Notably, Vietnam’s no. 1 weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan swept all three gold medals in the men’s 56kg category. Trinh Van Vinh successfully conquered the three levels of 130kg, 134kg and 136kg in the snatch competition for the title in the men’s 62kg category.
Winners of KOVA Awards 2017 honoured
Two researches on applied science and eight outstanding individuals whose work has benefited the community were honoured with the 15th KOVA Awards.
Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City University Medical Centre was awarded for their programme on the management of Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) while the Ho Chi Minh City Hung Vuong Hospital was acknowledged for their research in the field of obstetrics.
