Party chief chairs meeting of Central Military Commission
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has urged the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence to improve their research and forecasting capacity and further provide timely advice for the Party and the State while chairing a meeting of the commission on July 13.
The meeting aimed to review the performance of military and national defence tasks in the first half of 2022 and launch key missions for the rest of the year.
At the event, Party General Secretary Trong, who is also secretary of the commission, said the commission and the ministry should closely coordinate with other ministries and agencies to effectively implement strategies and projects on national defence and security.
CIEM provides two scenarios for Vietnam’s economic growth this year

Vietnam’s economic growth this year could reach up to 6.9% in the best-case scenario, as announced by the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) during a Hanoi workshop organised to launch a report on Vietnam’s economy in the first half of 2022.
In the best-case scenario, CIEM economists forecast that the country’s inflation will average 3.7%, exports will grow 16.3% and trade surplus will stand around 2.7 billion USD, the report said.
The base scenario anticipates that the economy will expand by 6.7% while inflation is expected to hit 4%. Additionally, exports will likely rise 15.8% and trade surplus to a total of 1.2 billion USD.
Vietnam claims five medals at Int’l Physics Olympiad 2022
Vietnam ranked fifth with five medals at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2022 hosted by Switzerland from July 10 – 17.
The five-member team won three golds, one silver and one bronze at this year’s virtual competition, coming fifth overall, after China, Romania, the Republic of Korea and the United States.
E-book series launched from television documentary “Vietnam in the Ho Chi Minh Era - A Television History”

An e-book series, which has been compiled from the massive television documentary series entitled “Vietnam in the Ho Chi Minh Era - A Television History”, is expected to be released in late July.
The e-book has 90 chapters corresponding to the 90 broadcasted episodes.

Phu Quoc, Vietnam's largest island off the southern province of Kien Giang, has been selected as one of 25 best islands in the world by readers of US magazine Travel Leisure.
According to the magazine, readers' enthusiasm for the island stems from "its white-sand beaches and delectable food."
