Philippine President pays State visit to Vietnam

Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and his spouse, along with a high-ranking delegation of the Philippines, will arrive in Hanoi on January 29 to begin a state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong and his spouse.

President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. was born in Santa Mesa, Manila, Philippines,on September 13, 1957.

From 1975 to 1978, he studied for a Bachelor of Social Studies at the University of Oxford. He then enrolled in the Masters in Business Administration programme at the University of Pennsylvania, the US, from 1979 to 1981.

He was a member of the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan partyfrom 1980 to 2009 and a member of Nacionalista Party between 2009 and 2021. He has been a member of the Federal Party of the Philippines (PFP) since 2021.

Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. served as Vice Governor of Ilocos Norte Province between 1981 and 1983 and then Governor of Ilocos Norte during the 1983-1986 and 1998-2007 periods. He was elected as Representative of Ilocos Norte's second congressional district during the 1992-1995 and 2007-2010 terms.

He was a senator from July 2010 to May 2022, and was elected President of the Philippines on May 2022.

The State visit by President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. to Vietnam affirms the solid strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Philippines, contributing to strengthening political trust, creating momentum to promote cooperation between the two countries, and strengthening the solidarity among ASEAN countries and the central role of the bloc.
