The statement was made on January 29 by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc while working with the leaders of the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu.

At the working session, the Government leader spoke of his appreciation for the efforts made by the provincial Party, government and people in making significant achievements recently.

He also pointed to the difficulties that the province needs to overcome, such as the effects of climate change, weak infrastructure, and small-scale enterprises.

PM Phuc suggested that the locality draw up a detailed and methodical plan for the rapid and sustainable development of the shrimp industry in the near future.

He emphasised that Bac Lieu should strive to become a heartland for the country’s shrimp industry in both shrimp fry and processed shrimp.

Regarding tourism, the PM asked the province to organise effective tours, perfect tourism ecosystems, diversify products, and connect with the major tourism centre projects.

It is crucial to pay attention to providing care for low-income households and policy beneficiary families, particularly in the run up to the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival, he added.
