Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong chaired the working session.

The Politburo members heard a report by the Central Economic Commission and the opinions of representatives of ministries and central agencies.

Over the past 15 years, especially since the Politburo issued the Conclusion No. 72, the Party and the people of Hai Phong City have made great efforts to develop stronger, faster and more sustainably. Hai Phong's economic growth is quite high, 1.68 times higher than the national average. In 2017, the economic scale was 4.27 times higher than that of 2003. The city’s GDP reached US$3,964, 1.54 times higher than the national average, increasing 5.43 times compared to 2003.

Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong praised the outstanding achievements Hai Phong city has obtained over the past few years, while urging the city to uphold heroic tradition and attach importance to the development of the marine economy, marine services, logistics, industry, hi-tech agriculture, culture, science and education, and especially defense and security in order to further promote the central role of the northern delta.

He stressed that Hai Phong is one of the most important cities in terms of political, economic, cultural, social, security, national defense and foreign affairs.

In addition, he also noted that Hai Phong should urged the provincial leaders to care for building a pure and strong Party and political system, as well as implementing the Resolution on reforming and reorganising the apparatus of the political system towards a streamlined, effective and efficient operation.
