The 2016 Dang Van Ngu Awards are biennially presented by the Ministry of Health (MoH) to 119 individuals and collectives who have made great contributions to the preventive medicine sector.
Addressing the meeting, President Quang emphasised that in the context of a complicated disease situation in the world as well as difficulties in the country’s economy, the health sector, particularly preventive medicine, has made a great deal of effort to mobilise all resources to fulfil the national target programmes.
The efforts have significantly contributed to achieving millennium development goals on reducing the malnutrition rates in children and the malaria incidence rate, as well as eliminating and controlling several dangerous diseases, added the President.
He affirmed that the Party, State and people have always given special attention and been willing to contribute to developing the health sector, particularly preventive medicine.
The State leader asked the health sector to promptly detect dangerous diseases in order to proactively determine appropriate solutions and policies, as well as to enhance the work of preventing and controlling both communicable and non-communicable diseases and health management in the community.
It is very essential to boost the communication of information about diseases and ways to prevent them among the public as well as to set out measures to support policy beneficiary families, low income earners and people who are living in difficult circumstances with disease prevention and control, said President Quang.
He urged those engaged in scientific and technical research and technological development to define and detect dangerous new pathogens, as well as to develop technologies for manufacturing vaccines.
He asked the domestic sector to closely cooperate with the World Health Organisation and other foreign countries and international organisations in the field of preventive medicine to raise the role and position of the Vietnamese health sector on the international arena.
